Home office transformation

One thing we all learned during the pandemic is how precious is to create a balanced space we can work in. Some of us are very lucky to have a dedicate room they can call home office, but if you, like the majority of people live in a small victorian property, don’t have the luxury of that extra room, don’t worry, I can help you make the most of the space you already have!

I would like to bring to your attention a case study of one of my first projects.

I was in charge of designing an informal living room, used mainly by the kids as a playroom when not at school. The living room would have to have a double functionality of kids space and, once the toys were put away, adult living space with a dedicated work space.

As you can see from the before picture, although there was a desk, the space was not maximised and the paint colour was too dark for this north facing room.

When I started redecorating the first thing I changed was the colour palette into a brighter and softer green for the walls and added organic warm tones with the accessories and the trunk to storage toys.

The desk was changed for a modern alternative from Ferm Living where I was able to add a couple of shelves for extra storage.

When designing a home office space make sure you have enough light and the room feels inviting for you to sit down and get on with your to do list.

Consider storage space another priority, make sure you can add shelves or cabinets to place your books and all the items you need.

Last but not least, style your home office like the rest of your house, between your stationary, books and printer, add a lovely green plant, or a decorative object.

Those are the details that will help your work station being more welcoming and will make you feel comfortable.

And to conclude I would just add…let’s get to work and design a beautiful work space!
